Twenty-two years of WrestleMania?
Really? Are you kidding me? Yeah, I’m feeling really old now. I remember the beginning of WrestleMania, when it was still a production with WWF members, not the WWE.
Why did I even know about it? My brother made me watch it. It’s the only reason I was so familiar with Hulk Hogan, The Iron Sheik, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Koko B. Ware, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and all the others. I even saw a few of them in person. How many of us can say we saw Bobby Heenan wrestle? Or Miss Elizabeth driving up in a car with “Macho Man” Randy Savage? Well, my friend Jackie, her brother, and me.
Anyway, this was all brought to my attention because of the recent death of 80’s wrestler Corporal Kirchner (Thomas Spear). I can’t say that I remember him specifically, but reading about him has brought back a ton of memories. My condolences to his family.

You know you liked it. and we never would have seen the woman with 4 boobs or been able to throw m&m’s into the back of someone’s pants if we had gone to the wrastlin match. that’ good times!

Thanks for this. I do remember Corporal Kirchner though barely. He obviously was only a semi-star. I still watch wrestling actually and I know that Jason is pretty religious about it. What is interesting is that WWE is bringing back a lot of their “Legendary” wrestlers recently. I guess just to pull in more viewers. Rowdy Roddy Piper has appeared a LOT recently. Not sure if you knew this but Miss Elizabeth actually died a few years back. It was some kind of drug overdose I believe. She was actually living with and dating Lex Luger at the time……did you know this? Also, funny that you brought up wrestling anyway because I don’t think it was all my doing that you watched and knew the wrestlers. I remember that when wrestling became pretty popular in the mid 80’s that NBC actually got a Saturday night contract. Remember that? As I remember it our entire family watched. Mom, Dad and little Kelli and you too Kerri. So you can blame mom and dad that you know all the old wrestlers.I was actually talking to Lisa about this a few weeks ago and realized then that perhaps mom and dad weren’t really into it and were just being “cool” parents. I mean it sure seemed like we were all having a good time but now that I look back mom and dad weren’t really the wrestling types were they? LOL. Just pleasing their son I suppose. Oh well, it’s still a nice family memory for me. And funny that I have never been to the pro rastlin’ matches…..and YOU have. Sticking tongue out.

I think it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy wrestling. I just can’t seem to get into it. but I have no choice, on Monday nights it’s MONDAY NIGHT WRESTLING- my husband yells those exact words when it comes on t.v..he insists on watching it. I just shake my head and read a magazine. but he enjoys it, so that’s okay. ;)

Alright, now this will drive me insane. I wrote a long response to this yesterday before lisa wrote hers. Is there a reason why mine’s not on here Kerri? …. and Lisa’s is?

Jack: For the record, I did no throwing of anything toward butt cracks. I do remember watching your brother do it, though. The woman with the 4 boobs still gives me nightmares. Odd memories there. One day, we’re in the state capital learning about our revered 16th president, 3 days later we’re seeing the finest in WWF. Craziness. :P
Doug: You somehow submitted the first comment twice and the system thought it was spam. All better now. ;) I actually don’t remember us all watching it. That’s odd to think of us all sitting there rooting on Hulk Hogan. I did know about Miss Elizabeth. If you link on her name in the article, it takes you to her Wikipedia entry and has all the info. Sad. I still remember bringing you back her poster when I went to see her with Jack! And I still blame you that I know them all. You’re right, I think Mom and Dad were only watching that for you, so, still your fault. :D
Lisa: So sorry you still have to endure it all. :) Hope you get some really good magazine time in there!

My family also used to watch it all the time. Even when it was Georgia Championship Wrestling. No one in my family watches it now. Sad really. I tried to watch one not too long ago and couldn’t get thru it.

Jack: Didn’t your mom go with us? I think I got your dad’s ticket to be able to go.

Mom was with us. i don’t think you got Dad’s ticket cuz he never would have gone with us. I think it was just my turn to invite someone along. The next wrestling event Jerrod brought a friend.
