Secret Clubs
Secret clubs are probably an aspect of many kid’s childhoods, regardless of the decade. My friends and I managed to be extra-dorky with ours- we had a secret M.A.S.H. 4077th club. Complete with a test you had to pass in order to be permitted to join. Luckily for our club, our parents all let us watch the tv show (how can you gossip about the plot if you don’t get to see it after all). And all of us tuned in for the final episode.
“Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen” was the final episode of M*A*S*H. The episode aired on February 28, 1983 and was 2½ hours long. It was viewed by nearly 106 million Americans (77% of viewership that night) which established it as the most watched episode in United States television history, a record which stands today. source: wikipedia
While it was sad to see the end of the show, I think we were all moving onward to such things as rabid addiction to the American Top 40. Once in a while I still see an episode- usually there’s some cable channel that will run the old series in syndication.

I still say MASH is the best TV series ever.

Hey, good to see you lurking around here!
It’s definitely hard to pull out a show that is consistently great for that many years. There are a lot of shows that had a brilliant season or three, but none with the staying power of MASH. I could be a little biased ;)
