While linking to Duncan’s blog for his “best of the worst” picks, I noticed his enthusiastic mention of the reforming of the band Crowded House. And, since reading that post, I haven’t been able to get away for more than a few minutes without, “Something So Strong” running through my head. At least it’s no longer the theme to Charles in Charge though, aye? That really was annoying.

Happy Monday! Time again for the Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies.

Over at Brohans.com, there is compiled a list of the top 20 shows of the 1980s. While they do include the first shows that I thought of offhand, (Growing Pains, The Cosby Show, Cheers, etc.), there are a few notable absences. No Family Ties? No Dallas? Hill Street Blues? And, really, did they not think of Pee-wee’s Playhouse? (Okay, so I’m joking on that one.)

Alright, I really thought I’d posted the Kids Incorporated Theme last Thursday. Not sure where my mind is. Have you seen it lying around? Kind of a gray, mushy, slimy lump of summthin’. No? Okay.
Anyway, lucky you, you get two, yes two, themes in one! In one day, at least.

Kids Incorporated. One of those Saturday morning shows (at least I think that’s when it aired, when else would it have?) that I remember loving, but I no longer have any idea why I liked it or what the plot was even. Kids dancing, that’s what I remember. You can head over here to see what Wikipedia remembers about it.
Enjoy the theme song, and watch for Fergie (Stacey Ferguson) of the Black Eyed Peas. She’s the first one to be credited. Crazy, huh?

I am definitely the demographic that the advertisers are trying to hit in the evening drama/sitcom time slot. In addition to the Back to the Future bit, I’m hearing more and more 80’s songs being used in commercials. Apparently, those marketing geniuses think that there are many middle-aged (am I middle aged, yet?) lazy bums sitting around basking in the glow of the boob tube, just waiting to be enticed to a bag of cookies by the sweet sounds of The Human League. Kristy McNichol came into the 80’s as a tomboyish teen with the show, Family, and exited that fine decade portraying a neighbor of the The Golden Girls on Empty Nest.
I was a bit young when Family started, but do remember McNichol on the show, and just thinking that she was the coolest girl ever! She had that shiny, straight hair that I so desperately wanted, and really I don’t remember a ton more about her. I am curious as to why she’s the only one smiling in this photo. Welcome back to the Best of the Worst of the 80’s. Looks like we’ve got Rick Moranis up again! What it is about him and best of the worst? Do you think he’ll have a movie in when we do a plain old “best of the 80’s” survey?

With the Chicago Bears in the home stretch to the Super Bowl, every child from the 80’s should be walking around with the sweet sounds of The Super Bowl Shuffle streaming through their brains, or is that just for those of us who were living in the Land of Lincoln at the time and couldn’t have gotten away from the song if we’d tried?
