80s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #2

80s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #2

The second in our weekly pick of the best of the worst of the 80’s movies goes to Weekend at Bernie’s. You remember it, right? The one where Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman lug a dead guy (that they’re pretending is a live guy) around paradise so they can stay out of trouble or something. Gee, how did that plot not inspire Oscar-winning performances?
This pick was submitted by Laura who writes on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome over at CFS Squared. Here’s her thought on the film:
i have seen it lots and lots. but everytime i watch …read more

Fraggle Rock on DVD

Fraggle Rock on DVD

Did you know that Fraggle Rock is now on DVD? I had no idea!
I used to be so jealous of all of my friends who had HBO because they would always come to school talking about the latest funny episode of Fraggle Rock. We would excitedly await the next free HBO weekend so that we could catch up on a few episodes.
And we were never disappointed when we finally got around to seeing them, which wasn’t any big surprise. Who doesn’t love any Muppet-filled Jim Henson production? Except for The Dark Crystal. I never did …read more

Chevy Chase on Law and Order

Chevy Chase on Law and Order

Chevy Chase (Cornelius Crane Chase–who knew?) is set to appear on an upcoming episode of Law and Order (the regular one, no special letters here).
I think Caddyshack is still one of Bald Man’s favorite movies. He’s shocked that I’ve never actually seen it. I’m shocked that he could actually sit through the whole thing. We often have different ideas of what’s funny. Annoying gophers? Not so much for me.
However, it should be fun to see Chevy Chase on L&O. I think I’ve seen every other 80’s star appear on it at some time …read more

Playroom at Madonna’s House

Playroom at Madonna’s House

Like I said, I’ve not kept up much on Madonna’s adoption of David Banda, the 13-month old boy from Malawi. Hsien, however, has kept up enough to know what the playroom that David came home to was filled with. Go here to check out her post about it.
Unbelievable. The 13-month old already has a nicer car than me.

Twenty-two years of WrestleMania?

Twenty-two years of WrestleMania?

Really? Are you kidding me? Yeah, I’m feeling really old now. I remember the beginning of WrestleMania, when it was still a production with WWF members, not the WWE.
Why did I even know about it? My brother made me watch it. It’s the only reason I was so familiar with Hulk Hogan, The Iron Sheik, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Koko B. Ware, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and all the others. I even saw a few of them in person. How many of us can say we saw Bobby Heenan wrestle? Or Miss Elizabeth …read more

Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan

Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan

I know nothing about Madonna’s recent attempts (or not) to adopt. Nothing more than you can probably read on hundreds of sites whose writers are speculating on the latest developments. So, I won’t waste any time on that here.
I do, in the midst of all the ubiquitous Madonna news, keep coming back to this movie, and to all the songs that I bellowed out to as a pre-teen/teen, sung by a way hip one-named superstar with big bows and earrings who was slithering across a stage. Man, was she cool.
When Desperately Seeking Susan was released, Madonna was in her …read more

80’s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #1

Welcome to The 80’s Club’s “Best of the Worst” picks of 80’s flicks from my fellow b5media writers. We kick-off with Wendy, who writes at Snarky Gossip, The Gryffindor Gazzette, and Stewie’s Playground. Thanks for playing, Wendy!
Wendy starts with a Roseanne Barr, Meryl Streep (really? huh) and Ed Bagely, Jr. classic, She-Devil. (Funny how Meryl Streep just starred in another devilishly titled film, The Devil Wears Prada. hmmmm…)
Here’s Wendy’s memory from the movie:
Can’t stop watching the ginormous mole (until she got it removed).
Gotta love a lady who uses the word, “ginormous.” Stay tuned for more …read more

Brian Bloom on Cold Case

Brian Bloom on Cold Case

Man, I had a HUGE crush on Brian Bloom growing up. I didn’t even watch As the World Turns all that much, except to catch glimpses of him. His blue eyed, dark haired mug shot was one of the first to adorn my bedroom wall. Wowza.
Anyway, I was shocked to see him appear tonight on an episode of Cold Case. Sad, sad episode, but still a treat to see Brian all these years later!

Best of the Worst 80’s Movies-Better Off Dead

Best of the Worst 80’s Movies-Better Off Dead

And here begins the first in a series of the best of the worst in 80’s movies. I’ve begged, pleaded, and charmed my way into receiving submissions for this series from my fellow b5media writers. Starting Monday, I’ll share a weekly post featuring those great bad flicks, and introducing you to the blogs of those who love to hate them.
You know which movies I’m talking about, right? Those bad, bad movies that you just can’t walk away from when they’re marathoning for the zillionth weekend on cable. Those movies that you might not dish out well-earned …read more

I Miss Night Court

I Miss Night Court

I miss shows like Night Court. Shows where you could just jump in any week and enjoy some laughs. No need to TiVo because one episode wasn’t dependent on the next.
A little drama, mostly just humor, a big scary baliff, a crazy judge, an irreverant attorney, and a bit of a Mel Torme fanatacism. Who knew that would be a perfect mix for a hit show? I can’t think of another show that’s quite duplicated whatever brand of funny they gave us. I miss Harry Anderson at the bench, and the circus that …read more
