Minimum Wage
Photos like this from Chik-Fil-A give me not so fond memories of working at physically demanding jobs for minimum wage, which back in the 80s was $3.10.
While the minimum wage has gone up substantially, now to $5.15 an hours, it is still very hard to make any kind of living off of this sort of income. Plus, most jobs that pay this kind of wage are some of the toughest out there.
This is still an issue today, and Congress is still battling over it. From a recent article at CNN.com:
Pelosi also pledged to improve security, reduce dependence on foreign oil, maintain Social Security and oppose deficit spending. Under the plan the minimum wage would rise from $5.15 to $7.25 over two years, the interest rate on student loans would be cut to 3.4 percent and Democrats would approve a “pay as you go” budgeting rule.
