Long Live the ’80s!

Here I am, with my favorite shirt on, starting a blog that is my dream and passion: The ‘80s Club.

Oh, the ‘80s…those halcyon days of yore. The music, the movies, the clothes. Man, the clothes. The fluorescent shoelaces alone were enough to burn your retinas. Will anything ever be that wonderful again?

I’m a bona-fide child of the ‘80s, with the triumphs and scars to prove it. When Ingrid and I decided to write this blog, I whooped with joy because…1) The eighties, and 2) Ingrid. Both are endless delights!

The decade wasn’t all fun and joy, of course. It was a hard time to be a kid, with the violence that surged up and the fear that grew: the space shuttle exploded, politics were a mess, mass-shootings made you afraid to go to McDonald’s anymore, and coverage of kidnapped and murdered children grew to such a rabid frenzy that you couldn’t help looking over your shoulder, even on your own street.

Perhaps that’s why the eighties were so bright and unabashedly cheerful, to balance the darkness. Whatever the reason, the decade will always be the most colorful, the most hopeful, the most creative and delightful.

I’m thrilled and honored to be writing this blog with Ingrid. Please join us in celebrating those crazy, wonderful days!
