How Smurfy!

How Smurfy!

Welcome to the Land of the Little Blue People! The Smurfs were a wonderful social collective- going about their daily lives and constantly alert to the mean plots of Gargamel and his sidekick cat “Azrael”. My brothers & I watched the Smurfs every week. One of the boys had one of the Smurf boardgames (I remember something about collecting baskets of fruit), and several of us had books and coloring books featuring Smurfs.

A little more gruesome (and if they had aired this during the years I watched The Smurfs I would have been totally traumatized), …read more

More on Scott Bakula

More on Scott Bakula

After my previous post, I thought I’d do a little more research for my fellow Scott Bakula fans. You probably remember seeing a lot of him in the 1980s on TV shows like Designing Women where he played Dr. Theodore ‘Ted’ Shively, Mary Jo’s ex-husband. He had a recurring part for 3 seasons. Some of his other TV credits in the 80s include: “Eisenhower & Lutz” (1988) TV Series – Barnett M. ‘Bud’Lutz Jr ; Infiltrator (1987) (TV) ; The Last Fling (1987) (TV) – Drew; I-Man (1986) (TV) – Jeffrey Wilder; Gung Ho” (1986) TV Series – Hunt Stevenson.

Quantum Leap Into the 90s

Quantum Leap Into the 90s

The first season of the TV show Quantum Leap began in 1989 and continued to run into 1993. It was a huge hit and told the story of Dr. Sam Beckett, who due to an experiment finds himself leaping through time. I’m a sci-fi fanatic, and who doesn’t love Scott Bakula? But along with hunky Scott B. this series handled all kinds of interesting, sometimes controversial, story lines and offered lots of unexpected twists and turns.

Secret Clubs

Secret Clubs

Secret clubs are probably an aspect of many kid’s childhoods, regardless of the decade. My friends and I managed to be extra-dorky with ours- we had a secret M.A.S.H. 4077th club. Complete with a test you had to pass in order to be permitted to join. Luckily for our club, our parents all let us watch the tv show (how can you gossip about the plot if you don’t get to see it after all). And all of us tuned in for the final episode.
“Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen” was the final episode of M*A*S*H. …read more

“A total geek magnet”

“A total geek magnet”

Being a total geek magnet was a bit of a disappointment, that is until I met the geek who is now my husband.

In the 80s however, being a geek magnet was definitely a scourge. It was frequently employed as a plot device in the movies, especially the ones starring members of the Brat Pack (depending on your source, the list of actors on the Brat Pack roster will vary), with Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink being the most notable, in my estimation, of the “chick attracting total nerds”. I watched most of the Brat Pack …read more

Magnum P.I.

Magnum P.I.

Guys dreamed of living his lifestyle, and gals dreamed of him. To me, he epitomised cool and handsome, and smart, and did I say handsome? Even more, Magnum P.I. wasn’t only a television action series; it was also able to stir in both comedy and drama in the plotlines.
A short intro from Wikipedia:
