Phil Collins Featured in Grand Theft Auto

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

HitsThere are songs by Phil Collins (and Genesis) that just bring back so many memories for me. You know what I mean, right? A song comes on, and you’re immediately standing in the jr. high cafeteria, nervously dancing with some kid who learned to dance by watching a stop sign sway on a windy day. Ahh…..memories.

Strange to think that some people’s memories are now going to be marked by watching Phil Collins in Grand Theft Auto:Vice City Stories game. At least they’ll still get to experience the classic male pattern baldness, they’ve nailed him on that.

Check out Playgirlz to get the whole YouTube effect. Thanks for the tip, Ingrid!

Chevy Chase on Law and Order

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

National Lampoon's Christmas VacationChevy Chase (Cornelius Crane Chase–who knew?) is set to appear on an upcoming episode of Law and Order (the regular one, no special letters here).

I think Caddyshack is still one of Bald Man’s favorite movies. He’s shocked that I’ve never actually seen it. I’m shocked that he could actually sit through the whole thing. We often have different ideas of what’s funny. Annoying gophers? Not so much for me.

However, it should be fun to see Chevy Chase on L&O. I think I’ve seen every other 80’s star appear on it at some time or another. Even if I didn’t like the show (which I DO), it would be a fun game of, “Who’s the 80’s actor/actress appearing in this week’s episode?” to play.

Playroom at Madonna’s House

Friday, October 20th, 2006

Confessions on a Dance FloorLike I said, I’ve not kept up much on Madonna’s adoption of David Banda, the 13-month old boy from Malawi. Hsien, however, has kept up enough to know what the playroom that David came home to was filled with. Go here to check out her post about it.

Unbelievable. The 13-month old already has a nicer car than me.

Twenty-two years of WrestleMania?

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

awwf.gifReally? Are you kidding me? Yeah, I’m feeling really old now. I remember the beginning of WrestleMania, when it was still a production with WWF members, not the WWE.

Why did I even know about it? My brother made me watch it. It’s the only reason I was so familiar with Hulk Hogan, The Iron Sheik, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Koko B. Ware, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and all the others. I even saw a few of them in person. How many of us can say we saw Bobby Heenan wrestle? Or Miss Elizabeth driving up in a car with “Macho Man” Randy Savage? Well, my friend Jackie, her brother, and me.

Anyway, this was all brought to my attention because of the recent death of 80’s wrestler Corporal Kirchner (Thomas Spear). I can’t say that I remember him specifically, but reading about him has brought back a ton of memories. My condolences to his family.

Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Desperately Seeking SusanI know nothing about Madonna’s recent attempts (or not) to adopt. Nothing more than you can probably read on hundreds of sites whose writers are speculating on the latest developments. So, I won’t waste any time on that here.

I do, in the midst of all the ubiquitous Madonna news, keep coming back to this movie, and to all the songs that I bellowed out to as a pre-teen/teen, sung by a way hip one-named superstar with big bows and earrings who was slithering across a stage. Man, was she cool.

When Desperately Seeking Susan was released, Madonna was in her late twenties. Not too far off of where I am today (I said not TOO far off….). It seems like just a blink since the early Madonna craze. Really.

I’m curious to know what that young 20-something girl would have thought of her life as it is now. Could she have imagined the impact that she would have on our culture? Was she already planning out the shock factor that her book and concerts would have on legions of people? Would she have seen herself as a mother? What kind of mother? Did she ever imagine that she would be trying to adopt a child from Malawi? Had she ever heard of Malawi?

My life is pretty much what I thought it would be 20 years ago. Not a bad thing, just a fact. Will my life in 20 years be what I expect it to be now? What impact will I have on the world? What choices am I making now that will impact my life, and the lives of others, for better or worse? Had I ever heard of Malawi before these last few weeks?

No answers today, just questions.

Oh, and I remember Rosanna Arquette in the film (duh), but Aidan Quinn and Laurie Metcalf? No memory of them at all in it. I’m gonna have tons of movies to catch up on, again!

Brian Bloom on Cold Case

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

abb.jpgMan, I had a HUGE crush on Brian Bloom growing up. I didn’t even watch As the World Turns all that much, except to catch glimpses of him. His blue eyed, dark haired mug shot was one of the first to adorn my bedroom wall. Wowza.

Anyway, I was shocked to see him appear tonight on an episode of Cold Case. Sad, sad episode, but still a treat to see Brian all these years later!

Duran Duran in Concert?

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

RioOkay, so you can check here if you really want to see Duran Duran live. But why settle for a real life event when their avatars are going to live in a virtual world where they will be in concert?

Huh?

You can check out the info here. As for me, I’ll stick to catching them on a timewarp weekend from my local mix station.

Bob Saget to Host NBC Game Show “1 vs 100″

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

Full House - The Complete Fourth SeasonBob Saget is set to host the new game show “1 vs 100“. It’s the next show in line from the creators of the mega-hit game show, Deal or No Deal hosted by comedian Howie Mandel. The show will air on NBC and premieres Friday the 13th of October.

The premise is that one person matches wits against 100 audience members over trivia questions. Sounds like fun to me! As long as we don’t have to sit through any Danny Tanner (so sad that I remember that name) bad jokes, I’m up for it. Bob Saget always was a pretty good comedian. His tagline for the show is, “You don’t have to be the smartest person in the world, just the smartest person in the room.”
Hmmm…works for me now, I’m the only one in the room. ;)

Dancing with the Stars features 80’s hunks-Update

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

athumb-mario-lopez.jpgOkay, so everyone loves Joey Lawrence and Mario Lopez, at least when they’re dancing. They did an awesome job again last night on Dancing with the Stars. Apparently, there was some “rule breaking” going on with Lopez and his partner last week, but a clean performance this week. And one that made my friend say, “You know, Mario Lopez is really hot.” I think it’s the dimples, myself.

Joey’s not looking too bad, either, even without the hair (I happen to like bald guys, though.). Bald Manajoey_lawrence.jpg and I were discussing whether or not he actually had to go totally bald, or if he could’ve pulled off the hair a bit longer. He thinks it’s too far receded, I think he could’ve made it another year longer. Or he might be able to hold on to some of it and weave it into some clothes for his dance partner, because they’re obviously short on some material for her costumes. Yes, she has a great body, yes she’s beautiful, no I can’t let my daughter see the awesome dancing because it’s a bit PG-13 there, yes I know I’m an old fogie….

Scott Bakula in The New Adventures of Old Christine

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

asam.jpgQuantum Leap’s Scott Bakula will be showing up on the CBS show, The New Adventures of Old Christine.

From their website:

  • Christine is in denial when the new man in her life reveals that he’s a grandfather.

He’s looking a bit goofy in the promos for the show, but it will be fun to see him again. I’m not so much a fan of most sci-fi shows (except, of course, for Quantum Leap), so I didn’t care to watch him in “Enterprise.” But I couldn’t miss an episode of Quantum Leap. I need to get my hands on those shows again!
