]]> Dream a Little DreamAnd we’re now to our last installment of the Best of the Worst of the 80’s Movies. This submission comes to us from Taxgirl. She picks two movies, starting with Dream a Little Dream.

Dream a Little Dream. It had both Coreys in it so you know it’s bad.

And her thoughts on Rambo:

And you must include Rambo and the sequels. At the time it was filmed, Rambo III was said to be the most violent movie ever. I especially loved how it tried to mirror our political stature at the time (the “save the world from Communism” post Cold War mentality) with each installment, despite the fact that most of those who watched it were hardly seeking political commentary.

She also mentions the upcoming Rambo 4. Stallone’s been busy again!

Dang, girl! ;) Did I mention she also happens to be the channel editor for the Video Games and Personal Development b5 channels? Whew.

Ingrid cracks me up. Seriously, I don’t know that anyone else I’ve read on-line has actually made me laugh out loud more times than Ingrid. And, really, I’m laughing with her, I promise. :D

Here are Ingrid’s picks:

How about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I love that movie. Or Labyrinth. I love David Bowie in that movie. I spent my childhood with tights tucked into red santa boot-like stalkings (free from Burger King!) because I thought he dressed so cool in that movie.

]]> Mommie Dearest (Special Collector's Edition)We’re down to our last few weeks of the Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies. This week’s pick is from Kelley Saunders of Thrifty Mommy.

Mommie Dearest is one of those that I do remember seeing at what was probably a pretty young age. I remember the boy being strapped in his bed, the crazy eyes of Mommie Dearest, and the classic “NO WIRE HANGERS” line.

Here are Kelley’s thoughts on that infamous flick:

I still can’t use wire coat hangers. We watched Mommie Dearest a few times and was tramatized ever since. My mom let us stay with the sweet school secretary that lived across the street, Mrs. Helweg. She was wonderful. But for some reason, she let us try to watch Mommie Dearest. My sister and I would start it when we got to her house after school and would get to the same spot every time before our mom would pick us up. I was scarred for life.

Duncan Riley, who writes at duncanriley.com, offered up three beauts for submission into this category. He says:

Caddyshack 2

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Totally…Excellent…not!

Bald Man is always preaching to me on the hilarity of Caddyshack, but I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever even heard him mention the sequel. I’m guessing now that it’s not just an oversight.

I loved Bill and Ted, but it is another one of those movies that I can’t honestly remember seeing anytime in the last decade or more. Time borrow to that one from the library and see how much my tastes have changed! I can honestly say that Keanu Reeves is still a cutie, though. :)

Anyway, this pick comes from William Lehman who writes for b5media over at Artist Hideout. About Spaceballs , William says, “hmmm I’d classify it under best of the worst or worst of the best, you decide…”

Being that it was a spoof of a sci-fi flick, one of my least favorite genres anyway, I’d stick it in a best of the worst. I do remember it being kind of funny, though.

We now come to Sheila’s picks! Do you know Sheila? No? Oh, well, you should. She is hilarious, and is a stop on my blog trolling whenever she has a fresh post out! She blogs for b5media at Medium Dreams and personally at GetSheila. Check her out!

Sheila’s picks start with Staying Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever. Of Staying Alive, Sheila says, “I so wanted to be a dancer.” But she says nothing about the handsome lead, John Travolta. Hmmm…maybe he’s not her type.

We actually learn more about her tastes when she comments on her other pick, Strange Brew. Says Sheila:

  • I was in love with Rick Moranis for awhile. I’d include My Blue Heaven (The pinnacle of my Moranis-love years) but it came out in 1990. Too bad. It’s horrible but I cannot look away.

    • Yeah, no room in your heart for Travolta if Moranis is already there. ;)

    ]]>     Grease 2 I completely forgot to post my Best of the Worst of the 80’s Movies post! So, here we are, a day late. Who am I that I think I get a day off for Christmas? ;) Hope your holiday was great!

    For this week’s best of the worst I’m sharing a pick from my totally awesome friend of 20+ years, Jackie. Of all the great things that she is, she is not a blogger. I know, I know, I’m working on her. She’d crack you up. Anyway, her bid is for Grease 2. Here are her thoughts:

    My pick for best of “worst” 80’s movies is Grease 2. It is horrible, but I can’t help watching everytime it is on. Michelle Pfieffer singing with a great deal of electronic help. Cool Rider, Let’s Do It for Our Country, Reproduction. The crazy ending luau scene. It is horrible in the way that makes you love it.

    So, hope that helps and bring on my critics!

    Did you remember that the premise of the movie was that the character of Michael, played by Maxwell Caulfield (who I had a HUGE crush on in this role) was Sandy’s cousin? I completely missed that. Too busy being infatuated, I guess. ;)

    What are your thoughts on the film?

    And, don’t forget, the reality show, “You’re the One That I Want” premieres on NBC January 7th.

    ]]>     Remo Williams - The Adventure BeginsOkay, it’s Eric’s last week up with us on our Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies. I’ve never even heard of Remo Williams – The Adventure Begins, so I am guessing that it isn’t incorrectly categorized here. The tagline for the movie, from IMDb:

    A most reluctant hero takes you on an action-adventure armed only with his fists and wits…and with his tongue planted in his cheek.

    Sounds like a winner, yeah? Here are Eric’s thoughts on this one:

    This actually got Joel Grey a best supporting actor Golden Globe nomination, and the make-up artist who made him look old and Korean got an Oscar nomination. It had many of the characteristics that should have made it a successful anti-James-Bond action movie, but it sort of fell flat.

    Anybody else seen this flick?

    ]]>     The GooniesThis is our second week worth of picks from Common Sense PR writer Eric Eggerston. While Eric’s first pick didn’t seem to ruffle any feathers (as in, “Yeah, you’re right, that WAS a bad movie. Good pick.”), this one is sure to grab a few objections. In fact, I know one reader who may just implode. Hmmm….that would be fun, and would make for a great post! :D So, here are Eric’s thoughts on The Goonies and why it deserves to be listed with the Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies:

    First big budget movie I went to where you can’t actually hear anything the actors are saying in the action sequences, and about 1/4 of the rest of the movie. Bad sound? Bad acting? They realized no one cares about the script? This movie is counted as a successful film, but really, it felt way too forced from start to finish.

    ]]>     Big Trouble in Little China (Special Edition)Here we are back to the Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies. Thanks for sticking with me on this series, even those of you (and you know who you are) who completely disagree with the picks. I have a feeling that this week’s feature is more in line with what you consider a “best of the worst” flick. Or it’s not, and you can just deal. ;)

    Of Big Trouble in Little China, Eric says:

    Wow. Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall running around Chinatown fighting monsters, overacting and wondering what happened to their careers. It doesn’t get much better than this. Sort of a precursor to movies like Kung Fu Shuffle, which do essentially the same schtick, but do it so well you love them.

    I actually haven’t seen this one. After Eric’s glowing review, I don’t think I’ll be running out to get it anytime soon. Baldman’s comment on the film went like this:

    Dude! I totally forgot about the Porkchop Express!!!

    I think, as editor of The 80’s Club, I am required by law to include any quote that uses the word, “dude.”
