80’s Movies Monday, Best of the Worst: Spaceballs

Spaceballs (Collector's Edition)Welcome back to the Best of the Worst of the 80’s. Looks like we’ve got Rick Moranis up again! What it is about him and best of the worst? Do you think he’ll have a movie in when we do a plain old “best of the 80’s” survey?

Anyway, this pick comes from William Lehman who writes for b5media over at Artist Hideout. About Spaceballs , William says, “hmmm I’d classify it under best of the worst or worst of the best, you decide…”

Being that it was a spoof of a sci-fi flick, one of my least favorite genres anyway, I’d stick it in a best of the worst. I do remember it being kind of funny, though.

What do you think? Did you enjoy this one?

Thanks, William, for participating!

Use the schwartz… thanks Kerri, now I am going to have to dust off my VHS player and go rent a copy again.

This movie was a crack-up. (For those of you who did not experience the 80’s a “crack-up” is “something funny.” Get with the lingo, would ya?)

For some reason, whenever I think of this movie, I think of Daphne Zuniga channeling Louis Armstrong as she sings “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen” in the deep voice of a soulful black man. TOO funny!

And, well, you know how I feel about Rick Moranis. Dark Helmet. What’s not to love?

I am a fan of this movie, even though it’s horrible. Horrible 80s movies just seem more tolerable because they are meant to be horrible.

Not my favorite ‘worst’ movie, but a good one.

Classic Mel Brooks. What’s not to like about Space Balls?

  5. Kerri Says:

Sheila: He was a cute little thing in that helmet, wasn’t he?

Arieanna: There were a lot of “meant to be bad” movies in the 80’s, weren’t there? What was your favorite “worst” movie?

Bald Man: Have we ever watched this one together?

  6. Kerri Says:

William: I do believe that you can get it on DVD now. Shouldn’t that be part of your permanent collection? ;)
