80s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #2

Weekend at Bernie'sThe second in our weekly pick of the best of the worst of the 80’s movies goes to Weekend at Bernie’s. You remember it, right? The one where Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman lug a dead guy (that they’re pretending is a live guy) around paradise so they can stay out of trouble or something. Gee, how did that plot not inspire Oscar-winning performances?

This pick was submitted by Laura who writes on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome over at CFS Squared. Here’s her thought on the film:

i have seen it lots and lots. but everytime i watch it, it feels like i have never seen it before.

Probably because you try to forget every time. ;) Maybe not, maybe that’s just me. Though I really wish someone would find a good staying role for Andrew McCarthy. I liked him in his single episode role on Monk, but still waiting to see him star in a a series that succeeds.

So, there you have it. Week two of the best of the worst. What are your memories of Weekend at Bernies?

Ah, I love this one too. I always get the “eye roll” from the hubby though when I try to watch it. Doesn’t this movie seem to be on every day on some channel?

  2. Kerri Says:

Hey Tammy! :D That and Back to the Future, I think. Though my whole family does still seem to sit enthralled by Marty McFly and the De Lorean. Too fun.

I didn’t hate this one. Maybe I was still in my “isn’t he dreamy” phase over Andrew McCarthy (even though his character never should have ended up with Molly Ringwald’s character in “Pretty in Pink”).

Or maybe because ‘paradise’ was just outside my hometown. Really. It was shot mostly in Wilmington, NC and the surrounding beaches - way before Dawson called those creeks home.

  4. Kerri Says:

Hi Kelly! You didn’t think Blane should’ve ended up with Andie? I loved Ducky in that one, but probably because my heart broke everytime his did! And, of course, his cool hair and shoes. ;) Annie Potts was crazy in that one, too.

I’d like to visit more of NC one day. I’ve been to the Charlotte area, but that’s about it. Gotta get to the beaches one day!

  5. Kelly Says:

I thought Ducky should have gotten Andie. He really loved her (sniff, sniff).

AND I’ve had a thing for Jon Cryer, ever since he was Ducky. I was an extra in a movie “back in the day” and I met him. He was soooo nice in real life.

And, yes, you should visit the beaches in NC before they become over-developed and look just like New Jersey…

  6. Kerri Says:

An extra? Too fun. Anything we could spot you in? :D Over-development seems like a national epidemic now. Really, I love Target, but I don’t need to be within 20 minutes of 4 of them. I’d rather have the pretty landscape every so often.
