John Mellancamp and Richard Simmons on The Today Show

John Mellancamp and Richard Simmons on The Today Show

I don’t often watch The Today Show anymore, my mornings these days are filled with cartoons on PBS or homeschooling. The other morning, though, I was able to catch a few minutes of the show and caught John Mellencamp performing songs from his recent album, Freedom’s Road. You can watch the YouTube video below to see and hear Mellencamp chatting with Today Show host, Matt Lauer.

I think the bit that stole the hour, though, was the cameraman’s capture of Richard Simmons working out while watching Mellencamp perform. You’ve gotta watch it just to check out the glittery …read more

Theme Song Thursday: Cheers

Theme Song Thursday: Cheers

I know, I know, I’m a day late. In addition to having the flu, I was having technical difficulties last night. Thanks for your patience.
The theme to Cheers is just comforting, I think. It’s gotta be one of my top ten favorite theme songs ever. Here you go:

Jell-o and Bill Cosby

Jell-o and Bill Cosby

Several of us in my family are down with a nasty virus right now, and Jell-o would be a welcome item on the menu! Can you think of Jell-o and not think of Bill Cosby? I know, I know, I think he was more about Jell-o Pudding than the gelatin, but that’s the best connection I can make for you today.
This commercial makes me think of my dad. He was a big fan of both Jell-o Pudding and Bill Cosby. And it was always a special treat if you caught him grabbing a Jell-o …read more

Music and Lyrics

Music and Lyrics

While out with some friends at the movies recently, we saw a preview for the new movie Music and Lyrics starring Hugh Grant (ha, I almost wrote Hugh Laurie. That would be quite a different film, I’d think.) and Drew Barrymore. The premise is that Grant’s character is an 80’s has been pop star who needs Barrymore’s character (his plant waterer) to help him succeed twenty years after the peak of his career.
The summary from IMDb:

A washed up singer (Grant) is given a couple days to compose a chart-topping hit for an admiring teen sensation. Though he’s never …read more

80’s Movies Monday, Best of the Worst: Mommie Dearest

80’s Movies Monday, Best of the Worst: Mommie Dearest

We’re down to our last few weeks of the Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies. This week’s pick is from Kelley Saunders of Thrifty Mommy.
Mommie Dearest is one of those that I do remember seeing at what was probably a pretty young age. I remember the boy being strapped in his bed, the crazy eyes of Mommie Dearest, and the classic “NO WIRE HANGERS” line.
Here are Kelley’s thoughts on that infamous flick:
I still can’t use wire coat hangers. We watched Mommie Dearest a few times and was tramatized ever since. My mom let us stay …read more

The Police Reunite for the Grammy Awards

The Police Reunite for the Grammy Awards

The Police are slated to reunite for a performance at this year’s Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 11th, and that will be my reason for watching the awards show. I’m not usually one to sit through these types of programs, but you can bet my butt will be planted to watch The Police! Or maybe I’ll just pretend to jam with them. I’ve been playing Message in a Bottle a bit on Guitar Hero II; it’s like I’m part of the band already.
There’s even a rumor of them going on tour a bit this year. …read more

80’s Music for Your Theme Party!

80’s Music for Your Theme Party!

Ever since someone mentioned going to an 80’s party, I’ve started planning my own in my head. I mean seriously, how awesome would that be?
I was looking for some tunes for the party, and came across this 80’s Pop Hits music box set at Amazon for 14 bucks! woo hoo! You know, in case you got rid of all your 80’s cassettes and records, or no longer have a tape deck or turntable in/on which to play them.
What tunes would be must-haves for your 80’s bash?

Crimp it up!

Crimp it up!

Theme Song Thursday: Roseanne

Theme Song Thursday: Roseanne

Why Roseanne this week, you ask? No other reason than that the Chicago Bears are in the Super Bowl, and that Roseanne was set near Chicago in Illinois. (I thought Lanford was supposed to be near Chicago, but over at Wikipedia, you find that the actualy location of Lanford varied depending on which episode you were watching. Wikipedia also goes into the whole Becky switch thing that went on. That bugged me.) That’s it. Nothing more.
Roseanne entered the sitcom arena with a bang, at least in our house. We watched this show together …read more
