Chicago Bears and the Superbowl Shuffle, Again?

Chicago Bears and the Superbowl Shuffle, Again?

With the Chicago Bears in the home stretch to the Super Bowl, every child from the 80’s should be walking around with the sweet sounds of The Super Bowl Shuffle streaming through their brains, or is that just for those of us who were living in the Land of Lincoln at the time and couldn’t have gotten away from the song if we’d tried?
It was up at YouTube for a while, but has been pulled down. I’m guessing it has something to do with those pesky copyright laws, but it was fun to see it while it was up, …read more

Back to the Future Pimped for Direct TV

Back to the Future Pimped for Direct TV

I LOVE Back to the Future. LOVE it! And so I’m so sad to see it being pimped now for a Direct TV commercial. Christopher Lloyd even reprised his Doc Brown role for the commercial. So sad to me. Now I’ll just have to stick to enjoying his character as The Hacker while my kids are watching Cyberchase.
Here’s the video. What do you think? Do you feel so nostalgic towards BTTF that the very suggestion of it being linked to Direct TV would sway you toward their company? Are you that easy? …read more

Return to 80’s Fashion: Legwarmers

Return to 80’s Fashion: Legwarmers

So, you were afraid that of all of the fine 80’s fashion that IS making back to our department store shelves, the legwarmers weren’t going to be one of them, weren’t you? Well, fear no more. Just in time for the winter (I think it’s gonna look and feel like winter around here at some point), some furry legwarmers for your comfort. Yes, this is the country we live in, where shave off all of the God given warm fuzzy hair on our legs just to replace it with some mail-order hair.
The heels in this …read more

Who’s your favorite Hughes villian?

Who’s your favorite Hughes villian?

Not only did John Hughes quite ably portray the fears, desires, hopes and challenges of the 80’s teenager, he also did a phenomenal job of presenting the worst in the villians of his films. Steve Spears has a great list of Hughes’ villians and all of their awful attributes. Head on over there and join the conversation in the comments section, and let me know who you chose as your best of the worst villians!
As for me? Most definitely Hardy Jenns (played by Craig Sheffer) from Some Kind of Wonderful. He had a way of telling …read more

Blair Underwood, Christine, and SVU

Blair Underwood, Christine, and SVU

I can’t remember the first time I saw Blair Underwood in something, but I’m sure it must’ve been in the 80’s. Based on his IMDB listings, it was probably in The Cosby Show as Denise’s (Lisa Bonet) friend.
It’s been fun to see him back on TV recently in episodes of The New Adventures of Old Christine as the object of a huge crush of Christine’s (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the older more mature older Christine. And then, in the same week (maybe it was the same night?) that he was very worthily playing the object of said crush, he shows …read more

The Lost Boys 2

The Lost Boys 2

“The Lost Boys 2?,” you ask. “Yes,” I answer. “Seriously?,” you ask? “Yes,” I answer. “How do you know?” you ask. “Because I read it on the internet, so it must be true.” I answer. “But WHY?” you ask?
And there you have me stumped.
But, it does appear that there is a sequel being made to that crazy 80’s movie filled with the acting talents of Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland (he has a reeaaally long legal name, go check it out), Jami Gertz (really? didn’t remember that myself), Corey Feldman, …read more

Best of the Worst-80’s Movies: Staying Alive, Strange Brew

Best of the Worst-80’s Movies: Staying Alive, Strange Brew

“While visions of BeeGees danced in my head…”
We now come to Sheila’s picks! Do you know Sheila? No? Oh, well, you should. She is hilarious, and is a stop on my blog trolling whenever she has a fresh post out! She blogs for b5media at Medium Dreams and personally at GetSheila. Check her out!
Sheila’s picks start with Staying Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever. Of Staying Alive, Sheila says, “I so wanted to be a dancer.” But she says nothing about the handsome lead, John Travolta. Hmmm…maybe he’s not her …read more

Theme Song Thursday: Small Wonder

Theme Song Thursday: Small Wonder

Okay, so I’m gonna go ahead and make a Thursday Theme out of this whole theme song thing. Hmmmm…that was a lot of “th’s” in that sentence. Odd.
Anyway, we both know that you could look these up yourself, but we also both know that you won’t. I will, because it’s my job. (heehee, this is my job. That still floors me.) And besides, if you were to look these up, you’d actually have to remember all of these often ridiculous shows. Unlike me, I’m sure you’ve relieved your poor little brain cells from …read more

Morrissey and Eurovision

Morrissey and Eurovision

There’s speculation that Morrissey (of The Smiths) may be asked to contribute to Eurovision on behalf of the UK.
What’s Eurovision, you ask? From Wikipedia:

The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual competition held between active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), in which participating countries each submit a song to be performed on live television; then proceed to cast votes for the other countries’ songs, in order to find the most popular song in the competition.

So, there you go. It’s like an American Idol, but European, and you only get one song, and the participants …read more

Like the facelift?

Like the facelift?

Yeah, so, apparently someone was noticing the fine lines and wrinkles around here that I was so desperately trying to conceal.
What do you think of the new template? Other than the massive amounts of pink (have I mentioned here that I’m not a fan of pink?), I think it’s looking pretty sharp. It was designed by Jonic over at 100yen. Well done, friend! Looovvveee the gradients.
