Kim Fields is Pregnant

Kim Fields is Pregnant

I loved the Facts of Life (and immediately the theme song is now playing in my head), and the friendship between Natalie and Tootie was particularly fun. The two younger girls always wanting to be cool and fun like their older roommates was something I could relate to.
Well, one of those young girls is soon to be a mommy! Kim Fields, who played the adorable Tootie so perfectly, is due to have a baby in May.
From People.com:
Fields and Morgan, 30, a Broadway actor, have been together “a couple of years” and decided this summer to have a child. …read more

80’s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #10

80’s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #10

Okay, it’s Eric’s last week up with us on our Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies. I’ve never even heard of Remo Williams – The Adventure Begins, so I am guessing that it isn’t incorrectly categorized here. The tagline for the movie, from IMDb:
A most reluctant hero takes you on an action-adventure armed only with his fists and wits…and with his tongue planted in his cheek.
Sounds like a winner, yeah? Here are Eric’s thoughts on this one:
This actually got Joel Grey a best supporting actor Golden Globe nomination, and the make-up artist who made him look …read more

The Greatest American Hero

The Greatest American Hero

I’m starting to love YouTube, can you tell?
This theme came to mind and, whaddya know, there it was for my viewing pleasure. I don’t even think that the VCR was all that popular yet when this show was on. Who knew a few decades later we could press a few keys on our laptop computers, access a website via our wireless connection, and conjure up just about any 80’s TV theme that we wanted? Would’ve sounded a bit like sci-fi back then (does still a little now to me!).
Anyway, here’s a good example …read more

Scott Bakula Folgers Commercial

Scott Bakula Folgers Commercial

So, I went hunting for that Folgers commercial from the 80’s where Peter, I think is his name, comes home and surprises his mom for Christmas. Remember that one? Where he wakes up his mom with the smell of fresh Folgers brewing? Right. Well, I didn’t find it. BUT, all is not lost. Here’s an 80’s Folgers commercial featuring Scott Bakula. Who knew he was so sensitive to caffeine? Enjoy.

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story

You knew we couldn’t get much closer to Christmas before I mentioned this 80’s classic movie, right? Watching A Christmas Story was one of the yearly winter traditions in our house. How could you not feel bad when Ralphie had to make his appearence in the giant pink bunny outfit? And when all the adults around him told him that he couldn’t get his Red Ryder BB gun because he would shoot his eye out, you could feel the injustice flowing. And then when he DID shoot his eye out?!? (Sorry, did I ruin …read more

80’s Contribution to the Christmas Carol

80’s Contribution to the Christmas Carol

Generations of poets and composers have created some of the most beautiful songs of all time. Included among these are the traditional Christmas carols of Away in a Manger, What Child is This?, Silent Night, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman. And what did the great decade of the 1980’s contribute to this list of fine aural pleasures? That’s right, you guessed it (or you just looked at the picture, cheater), Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.
Yep, that’s right, the song about, “the blue and silver candles that would just have matched the hair in grandma’s …read more

Gooniewear

Gooniewear

Still looking for the perfect gift for that child of the 80’s on your shopping list? You can’t go wrong with this Goonies inspired Truffle Shuffle t-shirt. Who wouldn’t be proud to show up in this for the office Christmas party?
Okay, so now you know that it’s best that I work from home in my pajamas. But still, I wonder how many images of the memories of our youth can be found plastered on the front of a $20 t-shirt. Odd. I shall begin the quest for the answer.
In the meantime, is someone …read more

80s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #9

80s Movies Monday-Best of the Worst #9

This is our second week worth of picks from Common Sense PR writer Eric Eggerston. While Eric’s first pick didn’t seem to ruffle any feathers (as in, “Yeah, you’re right, that WAS a bad movie. Good pick.”), this one is sure to grab a few objections. In fact, I know one reader who may just implode. Hmmm….that would be fun, and would make for a great post! So, here are Eric’s thoughts on The Goonies and why it deserves to be listed with the Best of the Worst of the 80’s movies:
First big budget movie …read more

Too Close for Comfort

Too Close for Comfort

It must be 80’s Sitcoms Theme Song week here, because I keep getting drawn back to these videos on YouTube.
Too Close for Comfort came up when I was with my sister and my friend playing the Trivial Pursuit 80’s Edition game a few months back. I was so frustrated because I could not come up with the name of the show. I just kept picturing Ted Knight with that dumb cow puppet on this hand. And there they are, Ted and the puppet, in the opening credits.
Enjoy:

That Phil Collins—He’s Groovy

That Phil Collins—He’s Groovy

Ever since I wrote the post about the upcoming Genesis tour, I’ve had Groovy Kind of Love floating in and out of my brain.
The Phil Collins version was released my freshman year in high school and was the theme for our Homecoming Dance. I can’t hear that song without being teleported to a dimly lit cafeteria draped in blue and white crepe paper.
I also remember my parents hearing it come on the radio and saying, “Why are they playing that song so slow?” As with many things from our childhood, we got the remake while they got …read more
