Lily Tomlin as the The Incredible Shrinking Woman

Incredible Shrinking WomanI’m not sure why, but as I was thinking about sneezing, my thoughts turned to Galaxy Glue. (I don’t understand my thought patterns anymore than I expect you to, just sharing pertinent information). And then just a flood of memories from the movie The Incredible Shrinking Woman starting coming to my head.

For those of you who only know Lily Tomlin at the Secretary to the POTUS on the West Wing, let it be known that she had a successful and fun career long before she sat outside of the (on set) Oval Office. One fun moment in that career was the film The Incredible Shrinking Woman. Bald Man’s never seen it (no idea how he escaped viewing this classic!), and I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to know that I’ve requested it from the library. Run out and get it yourself if you’ve not seen it yet!

By the way, does any body have any Galaxy Glue?

I have to seen it! Just not in a long, long time… though it seems that’s about to change.

I must admit I have never seen the movie. I do like Lily Tomlin a lot. But let’s see how well your trivia brain works….

do you remember her doing a very hilarious character who was a spunky telephone operator???? bet ya can’t remember her name!!!!!

and…..she also did a little girl character who sat in a big chair…..remember her name???

let’s see if you remember :)

Dang it. I’m trying to be really good and not wiki these. I can see them both clearly in my head. The phone operator with her hair all funny and the squinty eyes. Wasn’t Mrs. Beasley, was it? And I can see the girl in the big huge rocking chair. I can even hear her voice! You got me!!!!!

I have to savor this moment!!!!!!!!

    okay, alright, I’ll stop. Ready????

    the operator was named Ernestine!!!!!!!!!!

and the little girl……..was Edith Ann!!!!!!!!

I loved the little girl…..and the telephone operator, she snorted sometimes….totally hilarious.

Okay, Ernestine does sound familiar, and I remember the snort. Too funny. Edith Ann doesn’t at all, but I do remember her voice. And I’m sure you know many, many bits of trivia that I don’t know. You have all those extra years of experience in the world. ;)

extra years of experience…..love how you put it that way instead of saying “well of course Lisa you would remember because you are so much OLDER than I am”

    :)

yes it’s finally happened…I am sensitive about my age..there–I’ve finally admitted it!

now I really want to find some old shows that show her portraying those two characters….hmmm…but where to find them?

it’s not so much experience–it’s more gray hairs to document and lament over!!!!!

    ;)

[...] It’s so funny to see a movie so many times as a kid, and then to have so few actual memories of the film. Bald Man and I watched The Incredible Shrinking Woman tonight, another 80’s movie that I’d seen over and over, and I couldn’t believe the main conspiracy storyline that I’d had no memory of! It really was a bad 80’s movie, but too fun to watch again. [...]
