Orange Oompa Loompa

Orange Oompa Loompa

Golden could well be an apt description of the 80s- not just in terms of wealth, but also in looks. The well-tanned body was prized, and no one was much concerned with things like skin cancer. The hapless souls who attempted to use self-tanners instead of laying out in the sun or spending hours in the salons, didn’t have a lot of product options to choose among. The only one I remember seeing on the shelf by all the glorious yummy coconut-scented oils, is QT.

Unless you were somewhat orange-colored naturally, there was absolutely no way you could …read more

Welcome Back Leggings

Welcome Back Leggings

Okay, I wasn’t into these back in the 80s, and sorry, not sold so far. But, you decide. Got to MSNBC Today and watch the video. What do you think?

Dana Carvey- here to Pump you Up.

Dana Carvey- here to Pump you Up.

For me, the name Dana Carvey conjures up images of the Wayne’s World movies, but the actor & comedian has appeared in many movies. In the 1980s Dana appeared on Saturday Night Live in several sketches- The Church Lady, Hans and Franz, and Wayne & Garth. He also made appearances in several movies- Halloween II, This Is Spinal Tap, Racing With the Moon, Tough Guys, and Moving. During the 90s he appeared in several more films, and one source says he’ll be in Madagascar -the sequel. (Currently in production and to be released sometime in 2008).

Madonna Goes Topless

Madonna Goes Topless

Yes, I know. I guess these days, it’s no big deal for Madonna to reveal herself, but when you consider she’s no longer the young babe she was back in the 80s…..
From Madonna to appear topless: “The 47-year-old singer has reportedly posed for a series of racy snaps that will appear in America’s glossy ‘W’ magazine. The sexy singer – who is set to appear on a staggering 58 pages when the issue comes out – dressed as a horse rider for the shoot. The images – shot by celebrity photographer Steven Klein – feature the star posing topless, wearing fishnet …read more

In Memory

In Memory

In honor of the day (Memorial Day in the USA), in memory of loved ones gone, a couple of quotes:
Reminiscences make one feel so deliciously aged and sad. – George Bernard Shaw

In memory everything seems to happen to music. -Tennessee Williams

Sadness flies on the wings of the morning and out of the heart of darkness comes the light. -Jean Giraudoux

WKRP in Cincinnati

WKRP in Cincinnati

This is a show I remember, (though not with enough detail to name characters), and in doing a little research I understand why. WKRP in Cincinnati ran from 1978 – 1982 (barely qualifying it for an 80s show). I was a little more interested in plotting ways to acquire The Lone Ranger’s horse than I was in sit-coms.

I do remember these characters, especially after jogging my memory with a few images from the show:
Dr. Johnny Fever (played by Howard Hesseman), a burned-out veteran of the radio industry. Cynical, neurotic and almost always hung-over, he is usually in one …read more

Forgive Me If This Goes Astray….

Forgive Me If This Goes Astray….

Though the song 1999 dates back to 1982, Prince finally came out with album of the same name in 1990.
Here are a few of the lyrics to get you in the mood. The rest you can find at elyrics4u.com:
I was dreamin’ when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin’
Coulda sworn it was judgment dayThe sky was all purple
There were people runnin’ everywhere
Tryin’ 2 run from the destruction
U know I didn’t even care
‘Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999

TRON

TRON

The year: 1982
The place: In the Machine

This is a movie I, being a typical girl, did not see during the 80s. Thanks to my husband (who says this movie is what the Matrix wanted to be) I am ignorant no longer. This movie is all about being sucked into the Mainframe, and life and death are on the line. If you like sci-fi and love suspense and adventure, this movie is for you. Don’t expect the sort of graphics we are spoiled with now, but do keep in mind that for its time, TRON …read more
