Fashion Forecast: The 80s are Hot!

Flats at Target.com

What was hip in the 80s is hot once more. A look at the fashion that’s happening and practical this year:

Flats – They’re comfy, cute and go with any outfit. “Whether you’re spending $15 at Target or $150 at Anthropologie, the trend is colors, cutouts and sweet, flirty rounded toes.”

Toeless tights – Whether you choose black or turquoise and stripes, short or long, update your wardrobe with these inexpensive pieces. “Short ones are best worn so they end at the widest point of the calf; long ones should extend to halfway between there and the ankle bone.”

Long shirts – Belly-baring shirts are so yesterday. “This year, the shirts are hip-length – even long enough to come over the top of your low-rise jeans. The key to pulling these off is that whatever’s underneath cannot, I repeat, cannot be too tight or you risk rollover. Keep the shirt loose – but not baggy. Since the shirts hit at the hip, they run the risk of accentuating your widest point. Two possible solutions: Wear a shrug, or cropped cardigan, to draw the eye up, or wear a wide belt over the T-shirt at the waist.” Wide belt, you say? More of the 80s flavor!

Accessories – Thick belts or really thin loop belts. Drop earrings. Bangles. These are the accessories to watch out for this year.

Bubble skirts – “…this season’s bubble-style skirts can be flattering to any figure. Stay away from the impractical poufs that barely cover your bum. Instead, opt for mid-thigh to knee-length ones with a subtle bubble.”

I’m sure the young(er) fashionistas at the local mall will have their own unique ways of adapting these new trends. Something to keep an eye out for. ;)
