In sad news, the Lexington Herald-Leader is reporting that famous 80s landmarks like the “Love Shack” which inspired the B-52’s hit song of the same name, and the church where R.E.M. once lived are quickly weathering away.
Fire gutted a five-room cabin on the outskirts of town where the B-52s’ Kate Pierson once lived. The cabin is considered the inspiration for the group’s Top 40 hit Love Shack.
“The Church” — where R.E.M. lived, recorded and appeared in the 1986 documentary Athens, Ga.: Inside/Out — was torn down in 1990 to make way for condominiums. The steeple is all that remains …read more
