War Games

war gamesWas there no better movie for an 80’s boy that War Games (aside from maybe the Goonies)?. This is the movie that gave me my love of technology and made me ask for years to get a modem so I could join the then BBS scene.

The movie of course starred the young Matthew Broderick in his first major film role as David Lightman, and Ally Sheedy, and introduced modems to the world. I can still remember the scene where he puts the telephone headset upto the modem coupling device…now that was a modem :-)

The movie was a hit, costing US$12 million, but grossing over $74 million after five months in the United States. The NORAD set was the most expensive single movie set ever built up to that time, at the staggering cost of $1 million.

Lovelovelove Wargames…and The Goonies! This is my husband’s favorite 80s film…he’s desperately trying to find a poster for his office.
