The Apple II Computer
Once upon a time, before PC’s ruled the land, Apple II dominated the primary and high schools of Australia and introduced computing to Generation X, and probably a fair dab of Generation Y as well. The ubiquitous Apple II was everywhere. I can first remember seeing one in 1985, my school has 3 of them, and if you were particularly lucky you got to have a go. By 86 I’d changed schools and yes, my classroom has a computer all of its own! It was quite amazing. Often playing the computer was given as a reward for work well done, and who can ever forget games such as Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago or Taipan on the Apple II green screen, all booted by 5 1/4 inch floppy. These little babies were around for years, and they were still in use in my highschool when I finished in 93, although by that stage they were being phased out in favor of Macs.
For historical purposes of course the pic is a Apple II Plus, the first Apples with floppy drives, and of course the Apple IIe was the most popular at the time, although I used both at school.
