USA for Africa

USA for Africa

It is always heartwarming (to the point of tear-jerking) when big names unite for a cause. Has it been 20 years already when USA for Africa recorded THE song (We are the World)?
Harry Belafonte originally wanted to put together a benefit concert featuring black musicians to raise money for Africa. Ken Kragen (who became president of the organization United Support of Artists for Afica) thought an American version of “Band Aid” would be a better idea. Ken Kragen is an owner of a personal management and television production company. One of his clients was Lionel Ritchie, so he called …read more

Magnum P.I.

Magnum P.I.

Guys dreamed of living his lifestyle, and gals dreamed of him. To me, he epitomised cool and handsome, and smart, and did I say handsome? Even more, Magnum P.I. wasn’t only a television action series; it was also able to stir in both comedy and drama in the plotlines.
A short intro from Wikipedia:
Magnum, P.I. was an American television show that followed the adventures of Thomas Magnum (played by Tom Selleck), a private investigator living in Hawai‘i. The show aired on the CBS network from 1980 to 1988.
Time to relive those good ol’ Magnum P.I. episodes! Both the first and second …read more

Dancing Automobiles!

Dancing Automobiles!

These cars can move!
This Google video has been posted all over the internet, but I still think it should get at least a mention here at the 80s Club.
It’s a medley of ads for the 1985-1989 Isuzu Gemini. More than three minutes worth of automobiles dancing to a very 80s club number.

The Karate Kid

The Karate Kid

Who didn’t go ga-ga over The Karate Kid? Well I sure did. Short after watching this movie, started my urge of wanting to learn martial arts. I still haven’t gotten over that urge. Unfortunately for some reason I never did start seeking to learn it. I was always…umm, sidetracked.
The Karate Kid is one of the 80’s movies whose reruns I wouldn’t tire of watching. Though I vaguely remember Parts 3 and 4, I really love parts 1 and 2.
I guess Ralph Macchio will always have the karate kid image attached to his name and every kid who …read more

Knight Rider Trivia Question

Love that 80’s trivia?
Here’s a question for you Knight Rider fans!

Name that 80’s Character

Name that 80’s Character

Ready for the next round of Name That Totally Distorted 80s Figure?
Well, ready or not, here it is:

Clue #1: It’s a guy!

Wall Street

Wall Street

I’ve already covered my two other favorite movies of the 80’s, The Goonies and War Games, but the last of the three probably had the biggest influence on me in terms of who and what I wanted to be as I grew up, and that’s Wall Street.
This is going to sound bad….but here it is. I wanted to be Gordon Gecko. Really. Although of course in the end of Wall Street Gordon Gecko lost, the absolute power and influence he had made me want to be a stock broker for years…honestly
Somewhere along the line (about 85 I think) …read more

Scrapbook Layout: An 80s Prom

At the risk of being ex-communicated by my high school friends, here’s a peek at 2 nights when we were at our finest… our Junior and Senior Proms!

Catch the ruffles and bows? And the spray-net hair!
Names have been obscured to protect the innocent. I’m not even telling you which one I am.

MacGyver: Still my kind-a Guy

MacGyver: Still my kind-a Guy

One more reason the 80’s can’t be forgotten is for guys like Angus MacGyver, the guy who believed that brains always work better than brawns, hated guns and charmingly convinced other people as well.
Well if some guy is too good to be true, then I guess he’s just a product of someone’s imagination. Too bad MacGyver was just created by Lee David Zlotoff.
Uh-oh…I’m caught red-handed. I was (I think still is) a MacGyver fan. (Yes, I had MacGyver posters pasted in my college dorm bunk’s headboard!!)
